Note: As the foundations of this class are rooted in creating space for vulnerability and receptiveness of critique there is a zero tolerance policy for bullying and harassment of any nature.
Course Description
This 12-week workshop focuses on creating and critiquing fantasy stories using Liz Lerman's Critical Response Process. Students will examine key works in the genre, explore fantasy's ability to challenge and transform societal norms, and workshop their own stories. Through guided feedback, participants will develop their voice, refine their craft, and support their peers in creating resonant, imaginative works.
Course Goals
· Writers will be able to complete and submit the first draft of a story.
· Writers will be able to think critically about their colleagues writing and provide feedback
· Writers will be able to incorporate feedback and criticism in their works
· Writers will be able to revise their work into a better second draft

Daily Work/Homework
Homework consists of reading, analyzing required texts and participating in nuanced discussions. Daily work will be discussion. We will also discuss the week’s reading.
Major Assignments:
In this workshop there are two major assignments. The first one is a story 3-5 page short story, which will be discussed and revised during the workshop. The second is a revision of the story that is 7-8 pages long.
Class Participation
This class relies on participation in the class, and the community of the class. This is a trade class, and as such you are expected to think critically about the skill being demonstrated . You are expected to read and bring commentary into the classroom. The subjects that are discussed are tense, relevant and radical and this environment was created to be a safe-space to field discussions on these subjects. Ignorance is understandable but cruelty, disrespect, and harassment will not be tolerated. You are all encouraged to be civil, respectful and inclusive when it comes to interactions within the walls of my class. If you feel any concerns about classroom dynamics please speak to me and I will ensure that they will be taken care of.
Course Grading
There is no grades but there will be feedback.

This is an online course, attendance is dictated by participation.2. PENALTIES FOR LATE WORK and REQUESTS FOR EXTENSIONS
If it's more than 2 day late it is 10% off and 5% everyday after that. Extensions are available with an email.3. POLICIES ON MISSED EXAMS, MAKE-UP EXAMS OR QUIZZES
If you need to make up an assignment just email me.4. REGRADING POLICY
If you don’t like the grade, come to my office hours and I’ll let you verbally assert your paper’s points and argue for a higher grade.5. REQUESTS FOR INSTRUCTOR FEEDBACK ON DRAFTS AND REQUESTS TO REVISE
I will offer feedback on all drafts. If you want more feedback on a final draft, it will take 10-15 business days but I can provide written feedback. However, office hours feedback is always available.6. TECHNOLOGY POLICIES:
Recordings are provided so don't even ask for permissions. I catch you recording we’ll have issues. Camera’s have to be on. Sorry.7. ETHICS/VIOLATIONS OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
Students shall not plagiarize, cheat, or falsify or misuse academic records. Students are expected to adhere to University policy on cheating and plagiarism in all courses. The minimum penalty for a first offense is a zero on the assignment on which the offense occurred. If the offense is considered severe or the student has other academic offenses on their record, more serious penalties, up to suspension from lessonsPlagiarism and cheating are serious breaches of academic conduct. Each student is advised to become familiar with the various forms of academic dishonesty.
